Colemans Hatch Flower Show is looking for a new home!
Colemans Hatch Horticultural Society held their annual flower show on Saturday 27th July.
Although the weather had been hot and sunny, on the day before the show the rain set in and continued right up until the show opened at 12.30 on Saturday. This didn’t deter the hardy, however, and although the numbers attending were down on previous years, it was a delight to see so many people on the field and the children in their fancy dress on the theme of the moon landings was a delight. Natasha Kaplinsky opened the show and did an amazing job encouraging children and their parents alike to join in the races and presented the cups and prizes at the end of the day.
The committee would like to thank all those who supported the show, whether by entering the classes in the marquee, attending on the day, donating a raffle prize or advertising in our schedule. Without you all the show would not be the success that it is.
The flower show started during the war years, when a few gardeners would get together annually to show those in the village what they had achieved.
Today, the show has grown and the decendants of those gardeners and their families and friends still come year after year to keep the tradition going.
Gardeners come to show their flowers and produce and now with even more classes for all, including baking, jams and preserves, photography, flower arranging, crafts and a whole children’s section for all ages. There is a dog show, children’s entertainer, fun races, tug of war and side shows.
For some time now, Emma at Shepherds Gate Farm has kindly let CHHS use her field to hold the show, however Emma’s Livery business has now grown to such that she is unable to offer us the use of the field going forward. We cannot thank Emma enough for her support and generosity to the Flower Show over the years.
This of course means that the Flower Show needs a new home. We would really like to hear from any landowners who might be willing to offer us a field so that the much loved Colemans Hatch Flower Show can continue to the benefit of the local community and the charities that it supports.
If you feel you might be able to help, please get in touch with our Chairman Kit on 07702 405844 who will be happy to discuss options with you.
