  NUS GHANI, MP FOR WEALDEN
 Happy New Year!
I hope that you have enjoyed the festive season. As we step into 2022, please allow me to reflect on some of the successes and work that has been done to support Wealden throughout the past year.
I have been working tirelessly with the District Council and lobbied the Government for more support for Wealden. I am incredibly proud that over £65 million of Government funding was successfully delivered through the Council to help Wealden businesses recover from the devastating impact of the pandemic.
We have had a fantastic result for Crowborough and Hailsham! After two years of continuous campaigning and meetings with the Department
for Education, I am proud to have helped secure over £1.3 million for Crowborough’s Beacon Academy. In Hailsham, a new addition to our education services – The Ropemakers Academy opened this year. It is an incredible facility for children with special educational needs, and I was pleased to visit the site upon opening.
I am also pleased to have secured multi-million-pound funding for vital accessibility improvements at Eridge and Crowborough train stations. Great progress has been made at Eridge station already and I look forward to the works beginning in Crowborough. Moreover, I continue working with Sussex Police on tackling rural crime and ensuring that Wealden continues to be a safe place to live, and I am delighted that a new, centrally located, police station opened in Crowborough this year,
with a dedicated team serving north Wealden.
As you know, I was sanctioned by the Chinese Communist Party last March, for raising the mass human rights abuses against the Uyghur and investigating genocide in Xinjiang. I am proud have led the Genocide Amendment to the Trade Bill in the House of Commons
and to have made history when Parliament voted unanimously to support my motion recognising the situation in Xinjiang as genocide.
I will continue to work hard in 2022 to ensure that your concerns are heard in Westminster. Last year, my office responded to or helped solve over 10,000 queries and I continue to hold weekly surgeries to provide advice and representation. If you need my assistance, please email me at nusrat.ghani.mp@parliament.uk or visit my website www.nusghani.org.uk.
