New local service supporting the elderly
Do you know someone who is isolated, or living with dementia?
My name is Louise Munn and with The Good Company People I would love to invite them to my home to experience a Good Company session. I live on a farm in nearby Hartfield, and I recently trained as a host with The Good Company People.
The Good Company People offers a new way of enriching the lives of older adults, many of whom are living with dementia. They discover what guests love doing, who they enjoy spending time with, and carefully matching them with two other people who share similar hobbies and interests to create Good Company sessions.
The Good Company People believe that having Good Company on everyone’s doorstep will help over 60s enjoy more independent, fulfilling, lives for longer.
The sessions also provide regular, affordable respite care for the families and carers of people living
with short-term memory loss or mild to moderate dementia.
Each session lasts for five hours. I pick up the guests around 9.30am and take them back home by 2.30pm. During the day at my home we focus on activities that the guests enjoy. My last two sessions involved picking flowers and drawing them in our sketch books, and then exploring further to the woodlands here to pick blackberries. We arrange activities that we all take pleasure in, so there is something for everyone. I also prepare a nutritious meal so we have a lovely opportunity to chat over a leisurely lunch.
Each five-hour session costs £55 which includes the travel costs, lunch and refreshments.
Please contact The Good Company People on if you would like to find out more or book a free taster session. I would also be happy to talk you through the in- depth training I received in order to become a host.
What is a Good Company host?
A Good Company host provides safe, stimulating Good Company for up to three guests in their own home.
We are looking for people who are curious, fun and empathetic who can provide a minimum of three sessions a week (9:30am - 2:30pm or 12 noon - 5pm) to people over 60 experiencing social isolation, some of whom are experiencing memory loss. We will match Good Company hosts and guests by interests, needs, values and hobbies to ensure Good Company is enjoyed by all. You’ll be making a difference with the freedom to work any day of the week, creating sessions based on your guests’ interests. More information can be found on our website:
I hope to meet you soon, Best wishes

 The Good Company People
What’s behind the name
The Good Company People was conceived through the personal experience of co-founder Lucy Buck whose mum was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease Dementia at just 69. Lucy wants her Mum to spend time doing activities she loves like sewing, singing along to musicals and going for long walks in good company and give her Dad regular affordable breaks.
In the context of the number of older people in the UK increasing, yet Government support being cut, we wanted to create a service which we would wish for all our loved ones so everyone can live happier, fulfilled and more independent lives for longer.
