1921-2021 Centenary of the
Royal British Legion
This year has been a momentous year for the Royal British Legion, as they have celebrated their Centenary and all the work and support they have given to our Armed Forces over the last 100 years.
This year Remembrance Sunday falls on the 14th November, with Armistice Day on Wednesday 11th.
Although the work of the Royal British Legion continues through the year supporting our armed services, early November is probably our busiest time with the main ‘Poppy Appeal’ having started around the 28th October. This year in Forest Row, as last year we have decided not to do a house to house collection. Instead, as always, poppies, crosses etc. will be available in some shops and other outlets. Three collection dates have been arranged in the village, the first was held on Saturday 30th October and the remaining two are scheduled for 6th and 13th November. If you are able to help with this, I am sure Carolyn Aitken on 01342 823611 or Susie Kemp on 01342 822784 will be pleased to hear from you.
On Saturday 13th November, ‘Poppy Day’, we will be holding our annual R.B.L. Coffee morning in the Peter Griffits Hall. Please come and have a Coffee, buy some Cakes and enjoy a Chat with friends, while supporting the Poppy Appeal
Remembrance Sunday falls on the 14th November. As in years gone by, we will begin at the War Memorial with the wreath laying at 10.30am followed by the service in Holy Trinity Church. We look forward to seeing everyone again this year
The Royal British Legion is at the heart of a national network that supports our Armed Forces community.
We’re here through thick and thin – ensuring their unique contribution is never forgotten. We’ve been here since 1921 and we’ll be here as long as they need us.
We are the country’s largest Armed Forces charity, with 180,000 members, 110,000 volunteers and a network of partners and charities; helping us give support wherever and whenever it’s needed.
We provide lifelong support to serving and ex-serving personnel and their families.
Our support starts after one day of service and continues through life, long after service is over.
From providing expert advice
and guidance, to recovery
and rehabilitation, through to transitioning to civilian life – we can be by their side every step of the way. And it’s not just members of the Armed Forces but their families too. If there is ever a reason we can’t help, our vast network will mean that we know someone who can.
The R.B.L. is always looking for new members. You don’t have to be ex- service, just be prepared to support our servicemen and their families and all the Royal British Legion does to help them, in so many different ways. If you are interested, please contact our Membership Secretary Jane Wogan on 01342 825382
