Regrettably, we are in another national lockdown. I’ve worked tirelessly to keep Wealden out of the toughest level of restrictions, and I recognise how difficult the current circumstances are for everybody. The unintended consequences of lockdown run deep in Wealden and I am continuously working to secure support for our business and residents whose livelihoods are being impacted. However, the end of this pandemic is in sight.

2021 is the year of the vaccine. I am proud that Britain was the world’s first country to approve the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine and with our own Oxford/AstraZeneca and the US Moderna vaccines now approved, I am hopeful that this year will enable us to better arm ourselves against the virus.

Despite the logistical difficulties in rural areas like ours, my absolute focus is getting the vaccine into every part of Wealden as fast as possible. I urged the Health Secretary to ensure that Wealden residents are not having to travel for hours to get the vaccine in Brighton or East Grinstead hospitals, but can access it safely from local practices and medical centres. The Health Secretary committed at the dispatch box to ensuring that vaccinations are rolled out to communities and care homes all across Wealden. I am pleased that some local hubs have already been set up and more will follow soon.

I know that you are keen to get vaccinated as quickly as possible and I have noted your concerns about available locations. Please bear in mind that some sites have been easier to prepare, whilst others need more work to ensure that the jab can be offered safely, in line with national guidance. The vaccines will become available as each batch is manufactured and you will be called in as soon as there is enough vaccine available. Please be patient. The NHS will let you know when it is your turn to have the vaccine.

This is just the beginning of the biggest immunisation programme in our nation’s history and I will continue working with the Department of Health and the vaccine taskforce to ensure that everyone can access it promptly and easily.

I continue to work hard to ensure that your concerns are heard in Westminster. If you need my assistance, please email me at
