Praise for local businesses helping to save lives

Wealden District Council would like to thanks the hundreds of business across Wealden who are following the Government’s requirements for certain premises to remain closed to help the nation-wide campaign to save lives and protect the NHS.

“Our Environmental Officers have been patrolling parts of the District to ensure the rules are being followed. I am very pleased to report that the vast majority are complying,” said Councillor Philip Lunn, Cabinet member with responsibility for public health. “Where not, we have provided advice and follow up monitoring.”

“In this time of national need, our local publicans, restaurant owners and betting shops have not hesitated in closing their doors. Many other retailers have put public safety first and followed suit.

“Our enforcements teams have also been pleased to report that restaurants, cafes and takeaways which are still supplying take-out food, are making sure that food is not consumed in the premises or outside it. We would like to thank them all for their contribution to public safety at this very difficult time.”

The  Advice, Support and Information for Businesses section of the Covid-19 pages on the Wealden website provides information about securing businesses during closure as well as the cash grants for the retail hospitality and leisure sector, and business rates holiday for the 2020/21 tax year.
